welcome blog post

Hi! You made it, and I’m so glad you did. I have many adventures planned for Viceroy, Gracie, Felix, and Lucy, and some exciting things planned for you too. Finalizing a manuscript means that scenes get cut. So many of the shenanigans the characters get up never to make it through the editing process. Those outtakes will end up here in one form or another. Also, I continue to dream up tangents. Those will end up here too.

And there will be Flash Challenges! One of my all-time favorite things to do is to write to prompts. When we lived in Santa Fe, NM, I belonged to a writing group that met every Saturday at 9 AM in a local bookstore cafe. We had each written a series of odd-ball prompt sentences on strips of paper and stuffed the lot into a shoebox. We’d take turns pulling one strip, setting a timer for 3, 7, or nine minutes, and read the prompt aloud. Everyone would write like mad, longhand until the timer went off. Then we’d take turns reading the stories aloud.

It was so much fun that I’ve decided to do a version of it through Goodreads. Every two weeks, I’ll ask my followers for three keywords. I’ll pick a winner at random and, using their three words, write a flash fiction story set in The Viceroy Chronicles. You can see an example of this in the post “A Bath in the Sink.” I generated those words at random and wrote the story with them. The winner will receive a copy of Indomitable when it comes out on September 1, 2022. I’m having fun already, and the book hasn’t even hit the shelves yet. So stick around; you may have some fun too!
